The night crazies...featuring Madi

If you've never experienced the Night crazies with a cat, let me tell you it is the ultimate in scary fun!! The first time we experienced the 'night crazies' with Milky-Way, we thought he had gone mad. Evidently it is something cats do because Madi does it too.
This is our family room aka the night crazies spot. Right above this spot is a fan. Madi spends a many a night napping on the medallion. 100% asleep, the fan is not on and all of a sudden for no apparent reason she becomes possessed, she arches her back, her tail doubles in size, she does a sideways crab walk, she looks a the fan as if it is talking to her. Then in a nanosecond, she turns into a feline rocket zooming all over the house (both floors), sounding like a stampede of elephants.  Then just a quickly as she left, she returns to this spot stopping on a dime, rolls over on her back as if nothing has happened. There is not a camera quick enough to capture an episode of the night crazies.
I found this quote in "Who's Kitten Who?" by Cynthia Baxter.
It describes the night crazies purrfectly.
"A kitten is chiefly remarkable for rushing about like mad at nothing whatever, and generally stopping before it gets there" by ~~Agnes Repplier
Do any of you own a cat who has the night crazies?
Madi and Mom
Note from Madi, yesterdays post:  Many of you asked what I did with my Mad Money?
WELL  let me just say it takes a lot of $$$$ Avon products to keep a Diva looking like a Diva.
And YES Dad always puts the lid down...Mom and my sis trained him well!!!

  3. Oh my... my little Jasmine use to do exactly the same thing! Maybe it's just party time for cats. All of a sudden all the cats of the world wake up and go zooming around all at the same time! Sometimes a think God had quite a choice when he was deciding whether to make humans in His Own image or cats. Don't you think that they are just so much more advanced than us in so many ways? :)

  4. To wake up in the middle of the night to the sound of what could easily be that herd of elephants galloping down the hallway is a little unnerving. Tasha got the night crazies on a regular basis and at 16lbs the whole house seemed to shake when she galloped around the house.

I've only seen it a couple of times with Cindi Lou. Cindi likes to argue with her toys in the middle of the night, loudly at times.

  5. Hi BFFF, we never heard of the night crazies! When we first got Mouschi from cat rescue she was around 6 months - took her about a year to come out from under the dining room table!!!!
So maybe we and she missed that stage. Our humans are not happy when they get wakened up - funny things humans!
Lovin your paws in the air pic - reminded us of Bailey!

  6. Had several cats growing up and cats like to hunt at night so I'm thinking they imagine themselves as a "big" cat out in the safari hunting down their prey.....my cats had a very good imagination :)

  12. We don't do the night crazies anymore....or if we do, mama is sleeping so soundly she doesn't know!!!!!!!!

Sometime at night, Sammy will roam up and down the hallway, meowing a strange meow, with a small stuffed toy in his mouth......we think it's his "hunt" of the night!!!!!!!!

    Love to y'all from us'all

  14. Out of my four, two, Gina and Leon, get the night crazies. Gina accompanies her crazies with a running commentary, but Leon is not vocal at all. Becky and Rachael look at them like they're crazy.

  19. OHmidogness, Madi! Cap'n Ripley TOTALLY gets night crazies. Sometimes in the middle of the night, he starts singing pirate songs at the top of his lungs and then runs from one end of the house to the other. Sometimes he does this thing that mom and dad calls "revving himself up." He'll stand at the top of the stairs and then kick both his back legs at the same time while shouting "yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!" And then off he goes down the stairs. Whew! It's kinda ker-azy!

Um, not that YOU'RE ker-azy, of course.

  22. Hi Madi!
    OH MY GOODNESS!
We did not know about the night crazies...but Miss Boo did this just last night. Mom did not know what possessed her, but she was wild and zipping around the bedroom at midnight (MOM was still up) and she begged to be let out of the bedroom(very odd for her) but Mom let her and she zoomed out. Now we know what it is!

    THANK YOU!

  23. Our kitties don't do that but Blog Mom says that there have been other, past kitties who lived here who did. She read one theory that said that they were hallucinating, but maybe they're just getting messages from space aliens. I mean, it could happen.

    lotsa licks, Lola

  26. Oreo gets the night crazies too! He adds another element... an ambulance impression! This is where he meows continually at the top of his lil' kitty lungs. He runs fast enough that you actually get the doppler effect of his voice changing pitch as he WHIPS past you. And then, back on the couch, as if nothing has happened. Ambulance? What ambulance? I didn't hear a siren! lol!
