Mom Beth and the Girls made a beautiful new
Nature Friday Badge honoring the Memory of our friend
Gail
On March 5, 2025, my friend Denise at An English Girl Rambles, posted about
fairies. It reminded me of my Fairy post in 2021.
You might remember my post HERE
I heard there were several other Fairy Doors around the City. After some research, I found four other locations. MD, my driver aka DM, Dad of Madi, and I started our hunt for Fairies we only found one of the four mentioned BUT OMCs was a treasure of a find!!
There was a Fairy Forest at the Wilkerson Nature Preserve Park
On Wednesday, March 10 we drove 11 miles from home to visit
Dr. Annie Louise Wilkerson's Nature Preserve. She was affectionately nicknamed, Dr. Annie by her patients. Dr. Annie first female OB/GYN in Raleigh. The OB/BYN practice was with her brothers. All were Dr. Wilkerson so she went by Dr. Annie. She donated 157 acres of her Family farm to Raleigh for a Nature preserve. We just scratched the surface on the trails. We'll be going back a lot. The hardwood trees will keep it very cool in the spring and summer.
The Fairy Forest trail is just off from the parking a lot. The path is very well marked as you will see from these two collages.

What a delightful time we had following seeing all the creativity some in plain sight others hiding.
Millie and Walters mom commented below about the collage below:
Did you see the secret red door? In the 4th collage (outlined in red) of your post (not counting the FFF badge), in the picture in the upper right quadrant there is a teeny tiny red door with some stone steps leading up to it at the top of the picture. We made the picture as big as possible to see it. Biggify the collage to find it.

Imagination is encouraged. We saw seashells twigs arranged in teepee style and
elaborately painted houses with whirlygigs on them

The 157 acres have educational buildings on it and a huge pond.
As we approached the pond, we saw a great blue heron take off from the pond.
There are several beaver dams.
Random photo collage of just a few trails and sights we'll be going back

Can you imagine a meadow of Magnificent Monarch Butterflies

haha I remember that gorgeous tushi well! I found the teeny tiny red door, would have missed it. a wonderful place to wander and enjoy and of course the photographs to show us... the big plus is so close to home..
ReplyDeleteThank you for the nature walk. I enjoyed seeing these photos and we'll look at them again. And definitely we must respect the kitty.
ReplyDeleteFairy trees are kind of a thing. We don't know of a designated fairy forest but we do see fairy set ups, trees with doors, etc randomly when we are out walking.
ReplyDeleteI love that red fairy door in the first collage, and all the doors and houses in the second! I would LOVE those trails, amazing photo ops....definitely a "magical" place to be!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great donation to the community. Awesome place to explore.
ReplyDeleteLove the red door in the tree! We hope you see a beaver working soon!
ReplyDeleteI remember the tiny red door from your post in 2021. It was so sweet. I also found the more tiny red door from your visit to Dr. Annie's Preserve thanks to the heads up from Millie and Walter's Mom. You and Bryan keep finding the most wonderful places to walk. It will be cool in the summer. And yes, that is a most perfect Tushie and most likely the cutest Tushie♥
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely magical place. I see the tiny red door!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun place. I would love to walk through there and see all the little houses and doors. Might even spot a fairy.

I wish there was something like that around here to take my little great nieces to. Adorable shots of sweet Madi. XO
ReplyDeleteSuch wonderful photos, I love those fairie doors. Awwww, sweet Angel Madi!
ReplyDeleteWhat a delightful place! My Bigger Girl used to make fairy houses and leave them in an area of her college called "The Enchanted Forest." Even the groundskeepers would leave them be, since they didn't interfere with anything and so many enjoyed seeing them.
ReplyDeleteWe always respect our felines and Madi's photo could be used for Tock-Tober. Thank you for linking up with Feline Friday.
Dr. Annie left a wonderful legacy didn’t she? Thank you for going there and sharing this delightful place. It is such a beautiful area. Thanks so much for mentioning me. I love anything to do with fairies. Adorable photos of Madi front and back view :))) sending lots of hugs for a great weekend.
